There is no known psoriasis cure, a sad fact that too many sufferers are well aware of. There are, several treatments available that can reduce the lesions, swelling, and itching. The good treatment may even cause your psoriasis to go into remission. You'll want to make a plan with your doctor to help control your condition until a psoriasis cure is discovered.
Most Effective Treatment Plans
The most effective treatment plans usually involve both regular medication used in combination with at-home remedies. One medication that your doctor may prescribe is topical creams, such as a tar based ointments. Your doctor may also recommend steroid injections. These can be injected directly into the lesions, but can have side effects and may only be suitable for short term use.
Artificial ultraviolet light therapy
Artificial ultraviolet light therapy also known as phototherapy is a good treatment for psoriasis. Sometimes used when the condition covers a large portion of the body. The phototherapy (UVB, PUVA) involves exposing the skin to wavelengths of ultraviolet light under medical supervision. It is not always the best treatment for scalp psoriasis.
Alternative Therapies
Many people who seek a psoriasis cure turn to alternative therapies. Nontraditional alternative therapies may include acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, or qigong. While many of the alternative therapies are centuries old, they are not meant to replace the advice of your doctor, but rather supplement your regular treatment.
Good Diet and Exercise Boost the Immune System
Exercise and a well-balanced diet isn't a psoriasis cure, but they can prove helpful. You'll reduce your stress and boost your immune system by exercising at least three times a week and including plenty of vegetables and fruits in your diet.
Nontraditional Treatments for a Cure
In your search for a natural psoriasis cure the National Psoriasis Foundation get reports every day about the success of nontraditional treatments. Though not endorsed or recommended the treatments are not dismissed as solutions for some.
Some Simple Treatments
Olive oil or vegetable oil can be added to a bath to help reduce symptoms, as can apple cider vinegar. You can also mix baking soda with water for an ointment that you can apply directly to your skin with a cloth. While none of these will truly cure your psoriasis, they can help you feel better.
There is No Cure But Many New Breakthroughs Every Day
Although there is no psoriasis cure, there are many things that you can do to feel better and lessen the affects of psoriasis on your body. While no treatment is currently perfect, new studies are always being done and new medications, perhaps even a cure, are developed.
